Each week, different year groups are featured in our newsletter. Please see below  for Reception year group’s highlights from 30th January 2026.

Lemons and Limes have had a super busy start to 2026 and it has been wonderful to see our children start the year with lots of enthusiasm, ready to learn.
English
We have been enjoying our English unit, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, which has sparked lots of excitement and creativity. The children have taken part in role play, acting out the story and using story language to bring the characters to life.
The children loved designing their own ‘Wanted’ posters for Goldilocks, thinking carefully about her actions and how to describe her. They even built a trap to catch the elusive Goldilocks!
To finish, they have been practising writing simple sentences about the story, showing great enthusiasm and growing confidence in their writing.
Maths
The children have been learning to subitise numbers to 5, recognising small quantities without counting. They have also been practising adding one more to a given number, using practical resources to support
Alongside this, we have been learning about 2D shapes, exploring their names and properties and spotting them in our environment.
Phonics
The children are making excellent progress in phonics! We are also working hard to improve our handwriting using Kinetic Letters, focusing on correct letter formation and developing strong, confident pencil control.
