Purpose of the Parent Council

The Parent Council serves as a bridge between the school and its parent community, fostering open communication, collaboration, and mutual understanding. It provides a platform for parents to share feedback, discuss concerns, and celebrate positive aspects of school life, while also supporting the school in its ongoing development.


Role of a Parent Council Member

Representing Your Year Group:

  • Act as the voice of parents in your designated year group.
  • Gather feedback, concerns, or positive comments from parents in your year group.
  • Present these points during termly Parent Council meetings.

Attending Termly Meetings:

  • Attend one meeting per term with the headteacher and other council members.
  • Share and discuss feedback from parents, ensuring all voices are heard.
  • Work collaboratively with the headteacher and other council members to address key topics and find solutions to any concerns raised.

Communicating Outcomes:

  • Follow up with parents in your year group after meetings, providing clear and accurate answers to their questions or concerns.
  • Share relevant updates or decisions discussed during the meeting.

Supporting School Communication:

  • Assist the headteacher in relaying important messages to parents, such as updates on school events, changes, or policies.
  • Provide feedback or opinions on behalf of parents when requested by the headteacher.

Expectations of Parent Council Members:

  • Be approachable: Encourage open communication with parents in your year group.
  • Stay neutral: Represent parents’ views objectively, ensuring all opinions are respected.
  • Maintain confidentiality: Handle sensitive matters with discretion, sharing only what is appropriate or agreed upon by the council.
  • Work collaboratively: Contribute to a positive and constructive dialogue during meetings.
