History
Vision for our History Curriculum
By the end of Year 6 children will have a good understanding of how the human desire to improve, progress and bring about change impacted on our past and therefore in our present. They will be able to use key vocabulary to compare and contrast examples from across the breadth of study, describing these using a good understanding of chronology and be able to state a range of changes, discussing why this might be. This understanding will be based on good historical evidence and understanding.

History supports our wider curriculum vision through our key drivers in the following ways:

To know about the World | Children study History through the key concepts of Chronology, Significance and Legacy and Cause and Consequence. |
High levels of oracy | Children will compare and contrast different periods in History, ask perceptive questions and articulately express opinions based on historical knowledge, using subject-specific vocabulary. They will read high quality texts to support their knowledge and opinions. |
To have ambition | Children will study a range of diverse, notable figures from history to learn about the legacy of ambition. |

Our History curriculum is based around these key concepts that will support children's development in the subject area, aiming towards our vision.

Significance and legacy | …I understand how events or people in history have impacted life today |
Cause & consequence | …I investigate changes in different time periods and know why they happened. |
Each of these concepts is threaded through the curriculum and repeated through various units. This is because these concepts are vital for children at Henry Chichele Primary School to master in order to achieve our end aspirational goal.
