Covid-19 Catch Up Premium

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent school closures, the government announced £1 billion of funding to support children and young people to catch up lost time. This is especially important for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged backgrounds. This funding includes:

  • a one-off catch up premium for the 2020 to 2021 academic year to ensure that schools have the support they need to help all pupils make up for lost teaching time
  • a National Tutoring Programme to provide additional, targeted support for those children and young people who need the most help
  • The Recovery Premium Grant (RPG) followed and is part of the government’s package of funding to support education recovery following the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

It is a time-limited grant for the 2021 to 2022 to the 2023 to 2024 academic years. Use of the RPG is linked to the Pupil Premium Strategy.
