Religious Education

Vision for our Religious Education Curriculum

At Henry Chichele Primary School (HCPS), we believe that Religious Education (RE) enables our children to develop into accepting and unprejudiced members of society. RE allows children to explore and understand their own values and beliefs and those of others in their immediate community and beyond.

The teaching of RE equips pupils with systematic knowledge and understanding of a range of religions and worldviews, enabling them to develop their ideas, values and identities. It develops in pupils an aptitude for dialogue, so that they can participate positively in society, with its diverse religions and worldviews.

Religious Education - SACRE

At HCPS, our Religious Education curriculum is in line with Northamptonshire Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education 2018-2022, supported with planning by The Emmanuel Project. The curriculum taught to the children meets the agreed key learning points outlined in the Progression maps. RE is taught weekly as part of our broad and balanced curriculum.

Our goal for RE education is for children to gain an increasingly sophisticated understanding of the basis and impact of the world’s major religions, beliefs and worldviews.

In our RE curriculum, we aim for pupils to:

  • -develop Religious Literacy
  • - acquire and develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity and the other principal religions and world views represented in the United Kingdom.
  • - develop an understanding of the influence of beliefs, values and traditions on individuals, communities, societies and cultures;
  • - develop attitudes of respect towards other people who hold views and beliefs different from their own;
  • - develop the ability to make reasoned and informed judgements about religious issues, with reference to principal religions and world views represented locally and in the United Kingdom.

Our curriculum will allow children to deal with profound and difficult questions in human life in a way appropriate for their age and aptitude.

Throughout our RE curriculum, pupils will be encouraged to explore religions, engage with their own knowledge, and reflect on their learning and their lives.
